The strength behind Ashford Homes is Carlos Todd, Jack Rupp, and Mike Hoff. Ashford’s roots date back to the early 1970’s when Carlos Todd started as a land developer in the Greater Cincinnati area. Built on family tradition, Berkey Homes is owned and operated by Kevin Keyes. Kevin has a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from the University of Cincinnati. Before starting his own company, Kevin gained experience and guidance from his father-in-law Paul Berding of Landmark Communities, Inc., a prominent and active builder in the Butler County area since 1978. In 2006 Kevin and his brother-in-law, Matt Berding, began Berkey Homes, LLC and successfully built homes for more than 100 families. In 2019 Matt made the decision to pursue his dream of owning and operating his own restaurant. With Matt’s departure and Paul’s retirement, Kevin continues the family tradition of home building as Berkey Custom Homes, LLC. Charlie Simms is the President of Simms Development. He is a 6th generation Daytonian and a third generation home builder. For two years after graduation from Hanover College, Charlie worked as an accountant for Merrill Lynch in Cincinnati. In 1984, he came to work for his father, Charles V. Simms, as a Construction Superintendent. In 1986, Charlie was promoted to Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the company, and in 1990 he was made President.   In 1996 Charlie purchased Simms Development from his father. Charlie served as President of the Dayton Home Builders Association in 1999 and President for the Ohio Home Builders Association in 2008. Simms Development has won numerous awards, including National Multifamily Builder of the Year in 1995 through the National Association of Homebuilders. The Dayton Area Home Builders Association named Charlie Builder of the Year in 2004 and again in 2013. He was also the winner of the HBA’s top award, The McDaniel-Zengel Leadership Award in 2011. Charlie also is a licensed Real Estate Broker in Ohio. He has built over 2000 homes, condominiums, and apartments in the Dayton and greater Cincinnati areas. Today, he is much in the news as a successful builder in Downtown Dayton, a key player in the revitalization of our beautiful city.

Charlie has built over 100 townhomes in Downtown Dayton since 2011 on six different sites.


Rick and Laura Clemens started RM Clemens Company in 1987 building custom homes in the Dayton area with their main focus on Beavercreek and Bellbrook. The family owned business has since expanded to include their children. Their sons Nathan and Chad are currently the Project Managers for all Dayton home builds while their son Luke is the Project Manager of the company’s newest venture in Columbus.

The J&K story began when Michelle and her husband built a custom home for her family and recognized a need and opportunity to make the custom building process better for homeowners.

Jim McVicker, Michelle’s father, saw the same opportunity.  After several discussion, they decided to set out on the journey together.  From there, J&K Custom Homes was born (J&K stands for Jim and Kathleen “Michelle”).

After retiring from over 30 years in the executive corporate finance arena at a Fortune 500 company, Jim has applied his expertise to the management and operational standards of the company we see today.

Michelle has extensive knowledge of the design and construction process and as someone who built her own home, knows how to make the many decisions along the way.  Michelle uses her financial and accounting as well as her consulting and project management background to guide new homeowners through the process, on-time and within budget.


JNB Custom Homes, LLC was founded in 2004 by brothers John and Nick Boyle. The Boyles have over 20 years of combined construction experience., involved in all aspects of building from framing to interior carpentry.
